Khadi --Symbolic of freedom and patriotism
"Khadi ke dhage-dhage mein
apnepan ka abhiman bhara.,
These lines of Sohan lal Dwivedi conjure up the image of Mahatma Gandhi or Father of nation.He was the one who introduced with fabric as well as popularized it amongst the common masses during his struggle for the freedom of motherland.Really khadi was a part of Independent struggle in India . In the course of time the popularity of the fabric diminished and it slowly vanished into oblivion .
However people once again turning towards not only khadi but also organic khadi.Organic khadi is totally devoid of synthetic chemical fertilizers or insecticide . Organic Khadi are essentially made from bamboo plant and antimicrobial in nature.This is the environment friendly fabric.
No wonder to say khadi is acknowledged as one of the coolest and most comfortable fabric ever known.It is cool in summer and warm in winter.Khadi is trying it's level best to survive it's our responsibility and each individual of India to do whatever we can do to keep this khadi alive . Khadi is also called Khaddar or hand spun.Khadi is fully hand crafted by spinning and weaving.The process of spinning is done by charkha.The charkha became a symbol of the village industry and self-reliance.What better way to portray nationalism than spinning khadi on a charkha?. Gandhi jee worked hard to popularise Khadi and made it essential for every Congress members to wear Khadi.
Christiana Kim a los Angeles based fashion designer once said --"My aim isn't to make just fashion product.I want Khadi to become a way being and feeling."
The west loves simplicity and Khadi is a fabric that defines simplicity as well as style.The human touch at every stage in its weaving makes it exclusive.Today woven khadi takes myriad avatars of a design, like radiant kurta, elegant saree ,and ritualistic,dhoti,Gamachha too.
