Firaq the doyen of Urdu poetry

Raghupati Sahay received the Jnanpith  Award in 1969 for his Urdu poetic work 
Gul-e-Nagma.The name Raghupati Sahay doesn't quite fit here.In any case Shakespeare pointed what's in a name ?
Raghupati  Sahay never entirely abandoned his original name but known by his pen name Firaq Gorakhpuri . Even 78 years after Independence India remains in division of caste and religion.In these polarised times the  Urdu poet and educator Firaq is a phenomenon .One of the most outstanding and influential name in Urdu literature .In the age of internet no one wants to be a writer .Linguaphile in India are. fast   disappearing  species and  continues to dwindle.It is quite obvious that they don't know Urdu the language in which Firaq composed his poetry .In the world of Urdu literature he is known for opening new vistas of aesthetic upon Urdu  loving  people .
Raghupati Sahay born on 28th August 1896 in a prosperous and educated Kayastha Hindu family of village Banwarpar  of Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh . His 128th birth anniversary was on 28thAugust 2024 .There was no pomp ,show and celebration any where.
Despite clearing Indian civil services he joined the freedom movement of India.

Kitni ahista or kitni tez .
After India Independence Firaq joined Allahabad University where he worked as a lecturer in the Department of English. Here he completed Gul-e-Nagma that earned him the Jnanpith Award.He is best known for his  magnumopus Gul-e-Nagma  . Allahabad is renamed Prayagraj according to prevailing political dispensation .
But   Allah will always keep this  city Abad with the memory of Firaq .Prayagraj is the physical reality but Allahabad is the creative field  of poet educator .We  haven't honoured our great educators or poets any where near the same degree we have saluted our politicians.There is no Firaq plaza  and avenue anywhere.
Among his works are Bazm-e-Zindagi ,Roop, and more.There is long list of award
like Sahitya akademi award,Galib Academy award, Jnanpith award etc . However,Firaq Gorakhpuri may be best remembered for his innovative genius .
Firaq bade  adieu this ephemeral world on 3rd March 1982 and marks the end of a great chapter in Urdu poetry but it is not so Firaq Gorakhpuri is always alive in our memory.
His Ghazal, Bahut pahle se un qadmo ki ahat Jan lete hain.
Tujhe ai zindagi dur se pahchan lete hain.,"
This will not allow us to forget The great Firaq.,.. .

I have always been fond of reading.Looking back I can't forget how my father went above and beyond to encourage my love for reading  .My love for reading which was present in my school days has grown significantly. Due to fast-paced nature of digital media there is decline in reading habits . With the arrival of mobile phone, Laptop the habit of reading largely diminished among the youth.Reading newspaper and Magazine along with tea is no longer seen . Recently when I ransacked my store of the house ,I finally hit upon this great magazine of my father,s time. My father was an ardent reader of this magazine.This magazine  "Sunday,,was the biggest best seller of it's time.It was published from Anand Bazar publication.Once upon a time Mr M.J.Akbar has been editor of The Sunday,,.(1982 edition) . Now I don't know anything about this Magazine but this Magazine is imbued with memories....
